DIY Name Blocks

I have made several of these sets over the past couple of months. One for my own daughter and several for friends' new babies, adopted babies and this one for a very sweet girl's first birthday. I figured I might as well show you all how I did it. :)

I started with the following:

-5 1 1/2 inch wooden blocks
-your choice of paint color (I used a light pink)
-mod podge
-a foam brush (or 2, if you don't feel like re-using it)
-vinyl of your choice, I chose a chocolate brown (you could also just use stickers or cut out paper and mod podge it on)

Step One:
Paint the blocks the color of your choice. I ended up doing three coats on each side.

Step Two:
Add the letters to the blocks. I chose to cut out 6 different fonts into some chocolate brown vinyl on my Cricut, but you could use pre-cut sticker, vinyl or paper letters.

Step Three:
Paint a coat of mod podge over all of the sides of the blocks to keep the letters from coming off and giving everything a nice, smooth finish.

The finished product:

These are great to decorate a bedroom with, but will also be fun for kids to play with to help them start recognizing and spelling out their name. :)

Mother's Day

I decided to make some gifts for Mother's Day this year. They were a hit!

I started with a few pieces of wood Joel cut for me. We happened to have them in the garage, so that made it really easy!

Next step was some paint.

Then I used my handy-dandy Cricut to cut vinyl out.

Black for one...

...and brown for the other. :)

I was really happy with how they turned out and both sets of Grandparents loved them. :)

Oh, and here are a couple of cards to go along with the gifts. I feel like they're missing a little something, but they're pretty. :)

Blocks

I finally sat down to do some crafting! I made these locks for Juliet's dresser. There's a different font on each side, so we can change it when we get bored. ;) I thought they would be fun for her to play with when she gets older.

I started with plain square blocks, painted them black and cut out vinyl letters on my Cricut. I'm really happy with how it turned out. :)

Decor

I've been wanting to add some girly decor to Juliet's room. I looked around Etsy and saw several prints I liked, but figured I could make something a lot cheaper. I got the frames and paper half price at Hobby Lobby an cut out the black borders and giraffes on my Cricut. The whole project cost about $15. Not bad!

Candles

So, around Christmas, my sister made some candles. I thought it would be fun, so her and our sister-in-law came over today for a candle-making day. Each of us went home with about 7 candles. We figured it cost us about $7 to make the large ones and $5 for the small ones. We'll be doing it again for sure! :)

Pinterest

It has been way too long since I've gotten my craft on! I've been spending a ton of time on Pinterest and decided I should finally make something I've pinned. So, here's what I started with...

White yarn, red felt, a foam ring, scissors and hot glue (not pictured).

Wrap the yarn around the ring...don't worry about it being perfect. That's impossible. :) Then make some felt flowers to attach.  (All of the directions can be found at www.danielleburkleo.com).

The finished product. :) I used straight pins to attach the flowers, so I can switch them out for different seasons.

It's new home on our front door. Festive right? :o)

Baby Shower

I had a baby shower to go to on Sunday and made this little ditty up to go with the gift. :)
