So, I finally finished painting the nursery today. I painted it gray and added subtle polka dots to the walls. We're going to be doing black and white bedding. The carpet is going in this week and I'm super excited to see everything start to go together. Here's a tutorial on how to paint polka dots on a wall. Enjoy. :)
The Before:
First: Paint the wall color of your choosing. A light gray for us.
Next, I used my Cricut to cut out vinyl circles of various sizes and remove the actual circles, so you're left with an outline. (I had a sample pack of vinyl and used the colors I thought I wouldn't actually use for any projects.)
Cut apart the outlines, peel and stick where you would like on the wall.
Once you're sure of placement, the painting can begin! We have textured walls, so it's a bit trickier, but not bad. Paint the inside edge of the circle with the same color you painted on the wall to prevent your new color from bleeding under the vinyl.
Once that has dried, paint with your new color; filling in the entire circle. I painted the walls with an eggshell finish and got the same color in semi-gloss that I mixed with a bit of white to make it just a tad lighter.
Finally, carefully peel the vinyl from the wall while the paint is still wet to prevent it from peeling off with the vinyl.
I love how subtle it is and how the light reflects off the glossier paint.
Happy painting!
Polka dots rule :) Looks great!
