I have made several of these sets over the past couple of months. One for my own daughter and several for friends' new babies, adopted babies and this one for a very sweet girl's first birthday. I figured I might as well show you all how I did it. :)
I started with the following:
-5 1 1/2 inch wooden blocks
-your choice of paint color (I used a light pink)
-mod podge
-a foam brush (or 2, if you don't feel like re-using it)
-vinyl of your choice, I chose a chocolate brown (you could also just use stickers or cut out paper and mod podge it on)
Step One:
Paint the blocks the color of your choice. I ended up doing three coats on each side.
Step Two:
Add the letters to the blocks. I chose to cut out 6 different fonts into some chocolate brown vinyl on my Cricut, but you could use pre-cut sticker, vinyl or paper letters.
Step Three:
Paint a coat of mod podge over all of the sides of the blocks to keep the letters from coming off and giving everything a nice, smooth finish.
The finished product:
These are great to decorate a bedroom with, but will also be fun for kids to play with to help them start recognizing and spelling out their name. :)
Happy Crafting! ~Kira :)
